“Blind Dates Aren’t the Problem—Blind Processes Are”

You’ve probably had someone say: “I know a guy for you. Just go on one blind date!” And hey—sometimes that works. We agree, getting out there matters. Trusted people can see connections you don’t. But here’s the risk, especially if you’re a Black professional with a lot to lose: If their only criteria is “You’re both single and nice,” that’s not matchmaking. That’s roulette. A blind date with no process is just another way for weed poison to stroll into your life wearing cologne. So instead of asking, “Should I go on blind dates?” ask:

• Who’s making this match?
• What do they know about my values, my mission, my non‑negotiables?
• Do they actually know this person’s character?
